The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law has held its inaugural meeting following its constitution by the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.
According to an official press release dated 28 May 2025, the meeting took place on 20 May 2025 and marked the commencement of the Committee’s assignment in relation to the administration of the Section’s electoral and organisational processes. The release stated that the Committee was constituted after the dissolution of the previous SPIDEL Steering Committee by the NBA National Executive Committee on 15 May 2025.
The Committee indicated that its mandate includes coordinating stakeholder consultations, facilitating participation of the Section in scheduled NBA activities, and developing electoral guidelines for the election of new members of the SPIDEL Council. As part of this process, a virtual stakeholders’ engagement session was scheduled to obtain input from members of the Section.
The press release further stated that the Committee is working within the framework of the NBA’s institutional calendar, including preparations relating to SPIDEL activities at the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference.
No electoral guidelines, voting timelines, or substantive policy positions were announced at the inaugural meeting beyond the outline of planned administrative steps.
