The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) have held discussions on a potential partnership aimed at justice sector reform in Nigeria.
The engagement was disclosed in an official statement issued by the NBA through its verified communication channels, following a courtesy visit by a delegation from HiiL to the NBA Secretariat in Abuja. The delegation was led by HiiL’s Chief Executive Officer, Udo Jude Ilo.
According to the statement, the NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, received the delegation alongside members of the Association’s National Executive Committee. The discussions focused on areas of possible institutional collaboration in justice delivery, informed by research and reform initiatives undertaken by HiiL.
The statement further indicated that the HiiL delegation shared findings from its Justice Needs research project, which involves surveys of justice users in Nigeria. The research findings were presented as part of broader discussions on dispute resolution mechanisms and justice system performance.
No memorandum of understanding, policy framework, or binding agreement was announced at the meeting. The engagement was described as consultative, with discussions centred on exploring areas of mutual institutional interest.
