The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has approved a range of disciplinary measures against judicial officers and court registry staff following findings of professional misconduct arising from its internal review processes.
According to the Commission’s resolutions, Alkali Mustapha Kiru of the Sharia Court was recalled from judicial duties for a period of one year. The Commission found that he breached prescribed procedures in the handling of a matter before him, including actions taken without adherence to fair hearing requirements.
In a separate decision, Alkali Ahmad received a formal warning after the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee determined that procedural lapses in a criminal case under his supervision posed a risk to proper adjudication.
The Commission also sanctioned other judicial officers and court personnel. Senior Magistrate Sakina Aminu was reprimanded for failing to comply with an administrative circular issued by the Chief Judge regarding courtroom practice and was directed to maintain appropriate professional conduct in dealings with state counsel.
Within the court registry, Salisu Sule was demoted by one grade level following repeated complaints relating to workplace conduct, despite a prior warning issued in December 2024. Additionally, Ahmad Danmaraya, a Principal Registrar at the High Court headquarters, was compulsorily retired after the Commission found him culpable of misconduct involving official court documents and records.
The Commission further approved the reinstatement of two magistrates, Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti and Rabi Abdulkadir, who had previously been under review. Both officers were cleared to resume duties and issued cautions to observe integrity and procedural diligence in future conduct.
