The High Court of Justice, Kano State has issued a procedural directive requiring the attachment of passport-sized photographs to all sworn affidavits executed within its jurisdiction.
The directive was conveyed through a circular issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of Justice, Kano State and signed by the Chief Registrar. It applies to affidavits sworn before Commissioners for Oaths in all judicial divisions of the state.
Under the circular, every affidavit must include a clear and recent passport photograph of the deponent. Commissioners for Oaths are required to retain a photocopy of each affidavit together with the attached photograph for official records. The circular further directs that Commissioners must use customised stamps bearing their full name, official designation, station, and the date the affidavit is sworn.
The circular places responsibility for compliance on Commissioners for Oaths and states that the requirements take effect from the date of issuance.
