The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Danladi Yakubu Umar, former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, on a four-count charge before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, on 9 July; he pleaded not guilty and was remanded pending a bail hearing on 15 July.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Danladi Yakubu Umar, former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), before Justice U.P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama, on 9 July on a four-count charge bordering on nepotism and conferment of corrupt advantage, involving a total sum of N15,587,833.76.
The charges allege that, while serving as Chairman of the CCT, Umar caused contractors handling a painting job and a records-digitisation contract at the Tribunal's headquarters to pay a combined N11.5 million into a bank account belonging to his wife. The charges further allege that Umar caused a third contractor to pay N2,043,916.88 each directly to Baze University as tuition fees for his son and daughter.
Umar pleaded not guilty to all four counts when the charges were read to him.
Following the plea, Justice Kekemeke ordered that Umar be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to 15 July for the hearing of his bail application. The bail application remains pending before the court, and no ruling on it has yet been made.
